Newly-qualified plumber Matt Portway has praised the H2O team after completing his plumbing apprenticeship with the company.
Matt first joined the team five years ago to start his apprenticeship with us through Suffolk West College and quickly became a key part of the team.
He passed his course in April and received his certificate during national Learning at Work Week (May 13 – May 20).
Matt said his new qualification has “opened the door” to an even brighter future with the business.
He said: “The apprenticeship has been hugely worthwhile – certainly hard work, but very beneficial.
“I left school and wanted to join the trades because I like a challenge. I really enjoy problem solving and plumbing felt like the perfect fit.
“I got up to so much as part of the apprenticeship, from domestic to commercial work. It gave me all the hands-on experience I needed alongside the technical side of things I learnt in college.
“I’ve also received my Gas Safe certification, which will really help me in my career.
“I’m so happy to have passed.”
Matt added he wouldn’t be where he is today without the support of his colleagues throughout the business.
He said: “The people at H2O are brilliant, whether they’re in the office or on site, they’re really friendly and happy to help in any way they can.
“It will be great to celebrate this achievement with them.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to work with the business as a fully-fledged member of the team.”
Roger Oakley, our Production Director, said the team are proud of Matt’s achievements.
He said: “Matt has become a popular and important member of the team thanks to his dedication to his craft.
“The majority of us are here today because of apprenticeships – myself included – and recognise how important they are in producing the next generation of master plumbers and heating engineers.
“His qualification is richly deserved and we look forward to watching him develop even further with us as his career progresses.
“I’m sure we’ll find a way to celebrate and show him how proud we are.”
